The grievous
wound experienced by our nation on September 11, 2001,
has strengthened our pride in every healthcare and public
safety professional in America. While we extend our
sympathies and condolences to those affected, we offer
our thanks for the work you do every day to keep Americans
safe and healthy. In this disaster - and the many difficult
days to come - we know many of you are heroes, as well.
Particularly, to those in New York and our nation's
capital: know that the hearts, thoughts and prayers
are with you.
Often your work has been taken for granted
- and we know Americans may never have the leisure
to do so again. Your colleagues are in mourning across
the country. Flags are at half- mast. Our hearts are
full. We pray for those of you with friends and families
in the stricken areas. But our heads are lifted in
pride in our democracy, in the strength and resilience
of the American people, and in an American healthcare
system mobilized to save lives in the face of unspeakable
horror.
Each e-mail we receive from a colleague
has been a blessing. Here are the words of LCDR Stewart
Smith, MSC, USN, CFAAMA: "A little too close
for comfort. Felt the blast and smelled the fuel.
Made it out of the building okay. Been a busy 24 hours.
It's great to be alive and have friends and family.
God is good."
Please accept our thanks for the risks
you face and the work you do on behalf of all Americans.
God bless America.
